On the small island where nivids are found, they prefer to attach to a human host. As the insect feasts on the host's blood, it also injects a chemical which renders the host unable to move. The insect gets its fill to eat, while the host slowly starves to death... except in the case of the "leafmask" people. These strange, primitive humans adore the creature and see it as sacred. The leafmasks will actually continue to feed and care for the human host in order to keep the insect among them. |
